What is WorkHealth?
WorkHealth aims to support Victorian workplaces in helping fund voluntary programs to promote worker health and wellbeing.
The state wide initiative will involve Government, health professionals and health and safety experts working together, to provide employers and workers with services that specifically address chronic disease and associated risk factors. It will also actively engage employers, workers and their representatives to provide tailored solutions that meet the varying needs of Victorian workplaces.
What’s on offer to employers?
Funding is available for 2 types of services, providing eligible employers with a significant opportunity to gain financial support to:
- Offer 15 minute WorkHealth Checks OR
- Expand existing workplace activities by applying for a health promotion grant (if your workplace has implemented an approved program of health checks within the past 2 years).
You are eligible if you are an employer who pays a Victorian WorkSafe premium or are an approved self insurer (including employers who are registered in a jurisdiction other than Victoria, but have a WorkSafe Injury Insurance policy)
What funding is available?
Organisations with an annual remuneration of less than $10m will receive full reimbursement for the cost of the WorkHealth checks, meaning they are free.
Organisations with an annual remuneration of over $10m will be charged $50 for each WorkHealth check. WorkSafe will reimburse $30 towards the cost of each, meaning the ultimate cost to your organisation will be $20 per WorkHealth check.
What is a WorkHealth Check?
The focus of these 15-minute confidential health assessments is physical activity, nutrition, smoking and alcohol with a specific focus on type 2 Diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Clinical measures taken include blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol (incl. high density lipids) and waist circumference. Following the assessment, every employee receives an individual results booklet with some brief lifestyle counselling. For employers with over 50 participants, an aggregated company report will be provided.
What other Workplace activities can Employers offer?
For those of you who have already offered health checks to the majority of your work force in the past two years, you can apply for a workplace grant to expand existing workplace activities.
The types of activities that can be funded are those aimed at reducing chronic disease risk factors by promoting increased physical activity, healthy diet, smoking cessation, responsible alcohol consumptions and/ or positive mental health, for example:
· Seminars and workshops
· Online health information resources
· Health information brochures, fact sheets and support services
· Exercise classes and/ or walking challenges
· Healthy cooking demonstrations
· Canteen audits etc
